The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development (MEMD), in a spectacular event today, marked International Women’s Day 2026 at the Petroleum house, Entebbe. Hosted by the Permanent Secretary Eng. Irene P. Bateebe, the event celebrated the achievements of women in Uganda’s energy and mineral sector while highlighting the importance of gender equality, women’s empowerment, and access to justice.
The celebration aimed to recognize women’s contributions across the energy and extractives sectors, raise awareness of systemic barriers, and underscore the urgent need to scale up investment for equitable access to justice, aligning with Uganda’s Vision 2040 and the National Development Plan.
Through riveting speeches delivered by distinguished women leaders; Eng. Bateebe, PS-MEMD, Ms. Grace Tusiime, US-MEMD, Ms. Elizabeth Kasenene, Director Rentco, Keynote speaker, Dr. Sabrina Kitaka, and through policy discussions and symbolic activities, the ministry emphasized:
The ceremony attended by the MEMD staff included development partners and representatives from government MDAs.

The event highlighted the crucial link between access to justice, women’s economic participation, and national development, signaling a shift from policy commitment to actionable impact.
