Energy Access
Grid connections within the Umeme Limited footprint are facilitated through the EASP project. Visit your nearest UEDCL or Umeme office, or contact MEMD at info@energy.go.ug for guidance on eligibility and the application process.
EASP is a World Bank-funded initiative managed by MEMD to expand electricity connections under the new Electricity Connections Policy (ECP). It uses a Results Based Financing (RBF) approach to deliver new connections within the Umeme Limited footprint.
Mining & Minerals
Mineral exploration and mining licences are managed through the Mining Cadastre Portal. Visit https://cadastre.minerals.go.ug or contact the Directorate of Geological Survey and Mines at MEMD.
Uganda has significant deposits of iron ore, copper, cobalt, gold, limestone, phosphates, vermiculite, and rare earth elements, among others. The Directorate of Geological Survey maintains current maps and reports available in our Resource Centre.
Petroleum
Uganda is in the development phase of its oil and gas sector. The country has confirmed oil reserves in the Albertine Graben. Major projects include the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) and refinery development at Kabale.
